2007 Guidelines for League Play

  • Play starts at 7:30pm on Monday nights
    • Home team practice from 6:30 to 7:00
    • Visitor practice from 7:00 to 7:30
  • Player Ratings are from 2 to 8 (none higher and none lower)
    • Players are obligated to (must) disclose their handicap from other leagues
    • New players in this league will shoot as described below for a period of 4 weeks
    • New players who have never played in any league before are as follows
      • Male players start as 4’s
      • Female players start as 3’s
    • Scratch league players will start as their win loss % (ex .586 = 6)
    • BCA players will also start with their win loss % (ex .420 = 4)
    • APA players will start with their APA handicap
  • Rules of play are the world standardized rules for 9 ball
    • Special notes (these are in the rules)
      • Make sure if a player intends to push out that they announce it
      • Be sure to let someone know when they are on their second foul if you intend to 3 foul them.
      • If it looks like the hit is going to be questionable then stop play and have someone watch it.  Questionable hits go to the benefit of the player at the table.
  • Score Sheets
    • Are to be filled out completely
    • Mark Wins as W, Break and Runs as BR, and 9 on the break as 9B
    • Score sheets MUST be postmarked Tuesday the day following the match
      • Cash or check for $20 included
      • Score Sheets that are not postmarked Tuesday are assessed a $5 late charge
  • Rosters
    • Must be filled out and sent in by the 4th week of play along with the $10 per player dues
    • A maximum of 10 players
    • Roster are open all session long for adding players
    • After the 4th week new players must pay the $10 dues the night that they play or their scores will not count
      • Include the new players information with the $10 (address, phone, etc)
  • Playoff Qualifications
    • Players must have at least 6 weeks of regular season play to be eligible for playoffs
    • The playoffs use a 5 match score sheet (regular season uses a 4) in case there is a tie.  Teams need to make sure that they have a 5th person qualified for the playoffs (6 weeks of play)
    • A player will not be able to shoot more than 1 skill level above his or her average from the regular season in the playoffs
      • Any player who shoots at least 2 skill levels above their average in the playoffs will come under review with the possibility of game disqualification
  • Sandbagging
    • Players in this league will not show dramatic improvement of play during the playoffs. Laying down in the regular season to lower a handicap will result in disqualification in the playoffs.
    • A player will not be able to shoot more than 1 skill level above his or her average from the regular season in the playoffs
      • Any player who shoots at least 1 skill level above their average in the playoffs will come under review from previous sessions and previous playoff performances with the possibility of game disqualification
    • If you suspect an established player is sandbagging, call or write a note on your weekly score sheet. All records from that persons performances in this league both regular season and playoff matches will be reviewed.
    • For review of new players information might include but not be limited to area leagues, tournament stats, and handicapped tournament ratings.
  • Forfeits
    • Unless the opposing team agrees to something different a forfeit occurs when no one is present 15 minutes after scheduled play (7:45pm) or 15 min from the end of a completed match
    • Forfeits are scored 4 wins and 0 to the offender
    • A team that does not play at least 3 players on a league night will result in a forfeit and a loss of 0-4.
    • Forfeiting teams owe their dues for the night ($20) and they also owe for the team that showed up for the match ($20).  A forfeiting team owes a total of $40 for a forfeit.  The team that showed up owes nothing.
    • No team shall forfeit 2 times in a row and no team shall forfeit 3 times in one session or they will be dropped.  A team that is dropped from the league relinquishes any prizes they were entitled to.
  • Make Ups and Bad Weather
    • If a team cannot attend a match and the other team agrees to a makeup match, then it must be played before the next weeks match
    • In the case of bad weather if one team feels they cannot make it to a match then that match will be made up at the end of the session.  If some teams decide to play they will simply be one week ahead of the teams that have to play at the end of session
  • Point Cap
    • There is no handicap point cap in the regular season
    • There is a 26 point handicap point cap in the playoffs
      • Teams must be able to field a team that night that would equal 26 or less
        • Example:  you could not come with 3 7’s to steal a quick 3 points and then the remaining 2 players would not be able to fit under the cap unless they were a 2 and a 3
      • Point cap is determined on the most average player on the most average team
        • Right now (6-07) the average team handicap is 4.8 and the formula for the playoff cap is 5 X 5 = 25 + 1 for improvement = a cap of 26
        • This number / cap will change if the league would get stronger or weaker
  • Payouts
    • Regular Season pays out all the way down to last place
    • Playoffs will reward the winning team with six new Lucasi cues with a retail value of approximately $1200.00
  • Weekly Tournaments A weekly race to your handicap tournament held at the Ephrata VFW on Monday nights. Tournament starts at 8pm - $10 entry – Winner takes all – Player drawing at 8pm then late sign ups till 9pm – Played on one table until the league match is completed then it is played on both tables
  • Sign up a new team incentive
    • Be a current team in the league with at least a season of play under your belt and be responsible for signing a new team up, then coast with no league dues for your team for the first ½ the session (spring 07 session would have been worth $180.00)
    • The team that you sign up must play the entire session
    • If the team does not finish an entire session then the free ride money will be collected from the team it was paid to from their end of season prize money
